Magnum Auto Gen Start Question

Hello Everyone,
I had a customer ask whether it was possible to base your auto gen start off of the battery bank amp hour level as opposed to voltage readings.  He felt this would be a more accurate way of measuring battery life to maintain your proper depth of discharge.  Do the new AGS’s coupled with a battery monitoring kit have the ability to be based off an amp hour reading?

Thanks,

Brian Douglas

    hello everyone,
Right now the AGS only starts on voltage. We are currently working on incorporating the SOC reading from the Magnum BMK into the AGS module. This will allow you to start and stop the generator based on the SOC reading instead of just voltage. There are other added features in the AGS as well. The new features will be accessed through a new version remote. Stay tuned the new versions should be available in the next few months.

    Hi

I have found magnums soc meter to far from accurate. I have installed several systems with a magnum inverter as well as an apollo charger. Even with several call backs to fudge with efficiancy settings, i have not been able to match the state of charge on the meter, with the specific grav of the batteries. The trimetric in the appollo however i find to be much better.

Another problem with state of charge monitoring is that it cannot acount for standing loss in the battery. So an battery left for half a year might read a full state of charge, but voltage may be around or even below nominal voltage.

Especially for backup, voltage is a better way to start the gen.
